| Beschreibung: | Restoration and conversion of the former City Exhibition Hall to the Air and Space Museum. Originally one of two open-sided markets built in 1876, this rather fine building was later enclosed and used mainly for trade exhibitions. 1977 became redundant. Structural repair of the cast-iron construction and partly replacement of the rotten timber roof, new insulation and coverings. The surrounding of the building was provided with improved road and paving works including street lighting, floodlighting and car parking. The new Museum was a joint project of the Royal Air Force Museum at Hendon and the Manchester City Council. It contains exhibition areas, a shop, refreshment area, meeting room and facilities on ground floor, offices and a projection room on first floor. | |
